The USF Bulls finally got off the snide in a big way with a 55-16 win on Saturday Night and have found themselves a multi-dimensional quarterback.  Jordan McCloud had three tds through the air and two on the ground to finally get this Bulls offense going after struggling the past two games with Blake Barnett at the helm.

Tight End Mitch Wilcox also broke out of a mini slump with two scores. Let’s not forget the outstanding all around effort from Johnny Ford with a combined 137 yards in the air and on the ground.

Wilcox already owned the USF record for career catches (76) and yards (1,047) by a tight end, but in the second quarter Saturday, the Tarpon Springs native secured another spot in the record books with a 20-yard touchdown reception. Wilcox’s score was his seventh career touchdown, the most by any USF tight end. Prior to his first touchdown grab against the Bulldogs, Wilcox was tied with Sean Price for most scores by a tight end.

Wilcox, who scored his eighth career touchdown late in the third quarter on a 10-yard pass from McCloud, is predicted to be one of the best senior tight end prospects in the 2020 NFL draft.

“It felt great to get back in the end zone,” Wilcox said. “Both in the student section, so it was really cool to see all the fans go crazy.”

The defense was stout all night and forced a school-record eight turnovers. USF also set a record for the most fumbles recovered in a single game (five). Six of the Bulls’ seven touchdowns came after their turnovers.

Coach strong was impressed and stated “Our defense came out and was very aggressive. That’s why we had a number of turnovers,” “and we probably left two or three of them on the field.”

Defensive end Greg Reaves recovered two fumbles, one in the first quarter with 6 others registering one on the stat sheet.

Wilcox who scored after Greg Reaves recovery said in the post game: “That was a key thing. It’s much easier to get rolling on offense when you have good field position,” “Shout out to our defense and our kicking game for really doing that.”

The Bulls also ran for 218 yards, led by Freshman Kelly Joiner who had 64 yards on 12 carries and McCloud who had 56 yards and the two scores. USF had nearly twice as many yards as they had against Wisconsin and Georgia Tech combined.
