By Chuck Green on October 4, 2016
Super Boat International returned to the calm waters off the beautiful white sands of Clearwater Beach, Florida for their 8th Annual, Bright House-Clearwater- Super Boat National Championship. This premier motorsports event determines the 2016 National Champions in seven individual Super Boat categories.
The Super Boat National Championship is a highlight of the year for the City of Clearwater. This event features three-days of family fun, great food, and the largest, fastest off-shore powerboats in the world. During race week-end the downtown Cleveland Street district is abuzz with activities including a boat parade, street vendors and free concerts. The accompanying seafood festival is a big hit with race fans, with a variety of local restaurants preparing fresh, local seafood. The Greater Clearwater Chamber of Commerce states that the Super Boat National Championship is a boom for the community bringing in more than a 20 million dollar economic impact.
The Chamber also offered that with good weather, a crowd of 180-thousand-plus could be expected to line the beach. The weather for race day was in a word, Perfect. Warm temperatures, blue skies, a gentle westerly breeze coming in off the Gulf of Mexico, you couldn’t ask for anything more. The slight chop on the water made for fast, exciting racing. When the checkered flag waved over the final race of the day, five-new National Champions were crowned and two-defending National Champions would retain their titles.
