ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.—The  Rays have placed left-handed pitcher David Price on the 15-day disabled list with a left triceps strain.  To take his spot on the active roster, the Rays have recalled left-handed pitcher Alex Torres from Triple-A Durham.

This is the first DL stint of Price’s 6 year major league career.  Last night  vs. Boston his outing was cut short when he left the game in the third inning due to the injury.  Price got through 2 and 1/3 innings last night giving up 4 runs on 5 hits.  He is 1-4 with a 5.24 ERA in 9 starts this year.

Torres is 2-2 with a 2.39 ERA , 49 strikeouts, 14 walks and a .190 opponents’ batting average in seven starts with the Durham Bulls.  During major league spring training, the Torres allowed only one run in 4.2 innings pitched over three appearances and was optioned on March 12.  He pitched to a 3.38 ERA over four appearances with the Rays in 2011, his only major league action to date.  Over eight minor league seasons, the Venezuela native is 48-36 with a 3.59 ERA and 755 strikeouts.
