Inter-squad game with not more offense, Gray beats Blue 1-0… First Rounder Mitch Nay scored the only run and had the only RBI.
Toronto Blue Jays prospect Mitch Nay provided the team’s Blue vs Gray seven inning inter squad game with its only offense a solo homer in the fifth as the Gray beat the Blue 1-0. Nay, grandson of former major league infielder Lou Klimchock, hit his shot in the fifth over the left center field double decker wall off Juan Oramas. The Blue Jays open their 38th Grapefruit League season on Tuesday with a 1:07 game in Dunedin against the Pittsburg Pirates.
SIDE NOTE: The games first base umpire for the game also has a Blue Jays connection. The umpire, Randy Glover, is the son in law of former Blue Jays shortstop (1977) Hector Torres who happened to hit the team’s first ever grand slam homerun on June 27, 1977 (BOXSCORE). The Jays won 7-6 that day over the NY Yankees and the pitcher to give it… Louisana Lightning, Ron Guidry. Guidy was 16-7 that year and the Yankees won the AL East with a record of 100-62. The Yankees went on to beat the LA Dodgers in the World Series 4 games to 2.
