J Ho and Wings Shut Down Bolts in Mo Town

By on October 14, 2015

Tlightning road 480x280onight was the first contest between the Lightning and Red Wings since Tampa Bay won their 2015 Eastern Conference tough first round series in seven games.

The first 20 minutes of the game left you wondering who is gonna score first in this match-up.  Both teams were in their fast skating back checking style.

Back on the ice in the second period Gustav Nyquist notched a goal for the Red Wings just 2:08 minutes in. Both teams left the ice at the end of the second period with this lone goal. It looked like what was going to be a battle of goalies, with all of the speed and finesse that two powerhouse Eastern Conference teams possess. It’s like the two teams picked up from the recent seven game playoff series that left you on the edge of your seat watching playoff tempo hockey.

Two teams who have high powered offense and veteran playoff goaltenders managed to go into their locker rooms at the end of the second period with the score still 1-0 Detroit.

Just 8:52 minutes into the third period Henrik Zetterberg showed his veteran skills and scored a goal to push Detoit ahead 2-0. Just when you started to doubt the scoring ability of the Lightning,  Ryan Callahan one timed one past Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard.  The Lightning scored with 8:57 left to go in the third. It was the first goal that veteran Jimmy Howard had allowed this season.  There was hope for the Lightning because coming in tonight there are 23-3 when Ryan Callahan scores.

The Lightning pulled their netminder Ben Bishop with about 2 minutes left in the third period to gain an advantage and hopefully tie the contest. The Red Wings were defensively on point stopping the high powered forwards of the Tampa Bay Lightning to hold them back and Kyle Quincey of the Red Wings scored an empty netter with less than two minutes left.

A disappointing defeat for the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Motor City. A fast and furious matchup in the NHL. The Lightning will be headed back to their home in Tampa Bay to meet the Dallas Stars Thursday October 15 in the arena we affectionately call the Oil Can.
