The University of Tampa baseball team completed the weekend sweep over the Post Eagles 9-0 in dominating fashion.

B.J. Bailey delivered a masterpiece start for the Spartans on Sunday. He needed just 66 pitches to navigate 6.0 scoreless innings, striking out five and allowing only two baserunners. The win moves him to 2-0 with a 0.60 ERA. The bullpen duo of Alex Laiche and Oscar Hernandez was equally dominant, closing out the final three innings with seven combined strikeouts.

Leading 2-0 after early RBI hits from Gunnett Carlson and Javi Soto, the Spartans blew the game open in the sixth. Tampa used six walks and a bases-loaded, two-run single from Jhoander Irigoyen to score five runs in the inning on just one hit. A Jake Brooks solo homer and aggressive baserunning from Brayden Woodburn capped the scoring in the seventh.

By The Numbers

  • Red Hot: Irigoyen finished the series 8-for-10 (.800) with 9 RBIs and 2 HR. He has recorded multiple RBIs in five straight games.
  • Streaking: Woodburn extended his hit streak to 8 games, while Soto (7) and Vanecek (6) continued their strong offensive starts.
