Sponger Players join Coach Hawn on Show
By ROCKET SPORTS and ENTERTAINMENT NETWORK on October 3, 2012
Tarpon Springs, Fla.– This past Monday October 1st at Lagerheadz Sports Bar & Grill Tarpon Springs players joined Coach Ron Hawn on the weekly radio show.
#6 Michael Ford who was named the Yanni’s Sponger of the Game on September 28th vs. the Northeast Vikings, was joined by offensive linemen #75 Andrew Hagaman, #79 Ray Dudgeon and #68 Sam Belcastro.
Ford earned his Yanni’s Sponger of the Game award by rushing for 241 yards. Ford gave credit to the offensive linemen for opening up big holes for him to run through. When asked what it was like to run behind these guys Ford said, “It’s good, the holes are open almost every time.”
Ford has about 680 rushing already this season and Coach Ron Hawn said, “We haven’t had a 1,000 yard rusher I don’t think since 2009 and I think that year we had two 1,000 yard plus rushers. Michael is coming up on 700 already…. That was one of my personal goals coming into this season was to get back to that sort of mentality of running the football and have a 1,000 yard plus rusher and see how far we can go.”
Playing as a team was discussed. “When spring started we all had a list of goals… and we had that put up in the locker room and playoffs is definitely one of our goals and district championship is one of our goals,” said Belcastro. Dudgeon said, “I think playoffs are definitely possible. As long as we keep playing hard and working hard it will be there for us.” Andrew Hagaman, “not to focused on the playoffs right now… honestly it’s the playoffs every week from here on out.”
