Two Home Run Club
By Kris Dunn on June 14, 2015The Chicago White Sox called upon Chris Sale to avoid a sweep today in St. Petersburg. Just when it looked like he may be successful, Asdrubal Cabrera stepped into the batters box.
Known more for his defensive abilities, Cabrera won the battle with a two-run blast and the Rays held on for a 2-1 victory, completing the three-game sweep.
Something funny happened along the way though; Cabrera added to the list of pitchers he has slugged two home runs off.
Why is that important?
The Rays shortstop has 90 career dingers, however, he has never taken the same pitcher deep more than twice. Sale is the twelveth member of this two-home-run club. A club that includes names like AJ Burnett, Jared Weaver, and Clay Buchholz. His 90 homers have come off of 78 different pitchers.
Cabrera will face his former team tomorrow, the Washington Nationals. He has never hit a home run against the Nationals.
