Son of former Toronto Blue Jays great Jessie Barfield, Jeremy is making his first major league spring training camp in 2018 with the Boston Red Sox after 10 years in the minors.

“I’m glad to be here but I am more grateful for the opportunity,” said Barfield.  “A year ago I was trying out unsuccessfully for the Texas Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks and playing Indy ball but now playing in major league spring training games.  Shoot this is my 10^th year and my first big league spring training.  I’m grateful for the opportunity and I am just here to really make some noise, showing I belong.”

In 2017 Barfield play about a third of the season in Independent ball before signing with Double-A Portland where he hit .288 then finished the season with Triple-A Pawtucket.

After being a 9^th round pick with the Mets in 2006 (did not sign) Barfield signed with the A’s in 2008 as an eighth-round pick.
