BLUE JAYS SIGN CORDERO
By ROCKET SPORTS and ENTERTAINMENT NETWORK on February 1, 2012The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have signed RHP FRANCISCO CORDERO to a one year contract worth US $4.5 million.
To make room on the 40-man roster OF DARIN MASTROIANNI has been designated for assignment.
CORDERO, 36, posted a 5-3 record with 37 saves and a 2.45 ERA for Cincinnati last year, while holding opponents to a .198 average, the lowest opponent’s average of his career. The Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic native has now recorded 30+ saves for the seventh time, including 20 saves in which he retired every batter he faced in 2011. Over a 13 year career (Detroit, Texas, Milwaukee and Cincinnati), the 6-3, 245 lb., right-hander has posted a 44-45 record with a 3.17 ERA and 327 saves, ranking 12th on the all-time saves list, while adding All-Star appearances in 2004, 2007 and 2009.
