Boston Bruins get some Lightning with Thunder
By The Hockey Hottie on October 12, 2015Second road game for the Tampa Bay Lightning and their opponent the Boston Bruins are a long time rivalry for the Bolts.
The beginning twelve minutes of the first period the Bruins have the Lightning handcuffed. They are dominating puck possession and have managed to keep the Lightning offensive fire power at bay (no pun intended). With two power plays the Bruins have managed to put two pucks past the Lightning defense and their netminder Ben Bishop.
Just 2:59 into the first period the Bruins Krejci scores with a snap shot with the helpers going to Torey Krug and Patrice Bergeron. On a power play goal at 11:59 the Bruins strike again Loui Erickkson with Torey Krug and David Krejci. Then you start shaking your head and start to wonder if the Lightning are going to recover from the opening twevle minutes. Then at 15:42 Namestikov and Hedman are able to move the puck through the Bruins zone and put a beautiful pass on the tape of Brian Boyle to score the first goal for the Lightning.
Ahhh a little sigh of relief.
At 16:51 on a Lightning power play Andre Palat gets the tip in with the assists coming from Tyler Johnson and Anton Stralman. So they head offthe ice after the first 20 minutes of the game tied 2-2.
Impressive performance by Brian Boyle heating up the ice with a breakaway goal just 4:49 into period 2 putting the Lightning ahead 3-2. The Bruins aren’t going to lay this one down easily they score on a power play goal at 12:20 mark into the second period. Bostons Loui Ericksson strikes again for his 2nd goal of the contest assists by Davey Krejcj and Torey Krug.
The Lightning Captain Steven Stamkos notches goal number 4 which is his 500th career point with a snap shot assists Anton Stralman and Tyler Johnson at 15:17 in period two. Stamkos has 278 goals and 500 points in 495 games. The 25-year-old is the third player to register 500 points for the Lightning, joining Martin St. Louis (953 points) and Vincent Lecavalier (874).
Steven Stamkos joins an elite club scoring 500 career points in less than 500 games the exclusive members being Sydney Crosby, Alexander Ovechkin, Evgeni Malkin and Jaromir Jagr.
Johnathan Drouin has to make the Bruins feel the sting of the Lightnings offensive fire power as he notches his 2nd goal of the season with 5:38 left to go in the third period. Erik Condra and Victor Hedman with the assists.
The Lightning win the contest today at Bostons TD Garden 6-3. With again all the spectacular speed and finesse that is a NHL offensive powerhouse. Congratulations to Steven Stamkos for your amazing achievement you wear the C well.
The Lightning will pack up and be on their way to the Motor City to face the Detroit Red Wings, tomorrow at 7:30 pm at 19 Steve Yzerman Drive in the Joe Louis Arena.
