By Eddie Michels on April 21, 2016The Canadian National Junior team took on the Blue Jays extended spring squad on Wednesday handing their hosts a 9-4 ;loss. The game at the Mattick Complex in Dunedin not only drew family members and fans but a large number of professional baseball scouts.
Toronto native Andrew Yerzy homers on a 1-0 pitch in the second inning for the Canadian National Junior team on Wednesday as they beat the Blue Jays extended spring squad 9-4 at the Mattick Complex. The nationals also got a solo homer from Mississauga native Davis Cooper in the sixth but their big bomb came in the seventh. Clayton Keyes of Calgary connected for a three run shot that cleared the batters eye in center to end the juniors scoring. Not to be out done in the homer department the Blue Jays squad got four runs in the bottom of the ninth. Three of the four runs came on a homer by fellow Canadian Mal Romanin.
The Blue Jays signed Roberto Hernandez to a minor league contract over the past few days. “He’ll be going to Triple-A Buffalo,” said Jays GM Ross Adkins who was in town watching the Canadian Junior team play the Jays extended squad.
