DUNEDIN, FLA.– Above, Toronto Blue Jays infielder Maicer Izturis (torn lateral collateral ligament left knee) takes a break from workouts and watches a GCL game at the team’s Mattick Complex. Izturis was injuried when he tripped on the dugout steps prior to a game against Baltimore on April 13, 2014. At the time Izturis was hitting .286 with one RBI over 11-games. “Better” was Izturis response what ask about his knee, but when ask when he would return he just said, “Next year.” The 33-year old broke into the majors in 2004 with the Montreal Expos where he hit .206 over 32-games with one homer and 10-RBI.
Toronto natives OF Marcus Knecht and Strength Coach Jason Dowse are spending their summer with the Toronto Blue Jays Upper-A affiliate in Dunedin. The two were part of the team’s run during the first half of the Florida State League season that saw the team post one of the best records in all of minor league baseball. Dunedin Blue Jays hurler Kendall Graveman broke double digits in the win column Thursday night during the 5-2 win over the Jupiter Hammerheads.
Graveman an eight round pick out of Mississippi State in 2013 scattered nine hits over seven innings allowing just one run and striking out two.
Combined with a 2-0 record at Class-A Lansing earlier in the season Gravemen’s 8-3 record gives him a 10-3 posting for the 2014 season.
