Extended Spring for Lawrie
By Eddie Michels on April 13, 2013CLEARWATER, FLA.–Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Brett Lawrie (above) get an infield single. He went 1-5 with a strike out and walk in an extended spring game against the Phillies squad today. Lawrie has been on the DL with a left oblique strain.
Lawrie, who was injured during preparation with Team Canada for the WBC said he had no problems Saturday.
“Everything is going well another good day today obviously a bit of bad news last night for our club,” said Lawrie referring to Jose Reyes ankle injury, “I’m feeling really good today.”
Lawrie was actually supposed to start a rehab assignment with Class-A Dunedin on Saturday.
“Yes I was today but they (Blue Jays) felt I would get some more AB’s if I just came over here. I was able to get in six AB’s in over here instead of having to go through the whole game and I got to choose where I hit today. It’s not so much about playing in certain types of games it’s just about getting a certain amount of at bats before I go up.”
As to where he will be playing next Lawrie said, “I am not sure I haven’t been told. I will go back to the complex right now, go get a workout in and stuff then a reassessment when the end of the day hits.”
With the injury to Reyes, Lawrie was ask if he might be heading to Kansas City?
“I have no idea, I haven’t been told yet,” said Lawrie, “(GM) Alex (Anthopoulos) hasn’t given me a heads up yet or anything like that. So as of right now I will just go back to get my work in then find out what is going on in a little bit.”
