It May Spell Dream but for the Tarpon Springs High School Band it is Reality
By Eddie Michels on November 5, 2021Tarpon Springs, Fla.–On Saturday October 30th this group of local musicians had traveled to Johnson City, Tennessee to compete in the Bands of America Regional Championship. These students at the Tarpon Spring High School saw their dream become reality when they came away with the 2A Class Championship and the Overall Grand Champions earning them the right to compete in the nationals in Indianapolis, Indiana.
On Thursday November 4th at the football stadium adjacent to the high school the students represented their winning performance for the large number of parents, grandparents, fellow students and visitors present. It was enjoyed by all. Unfortunately the trip to the nationals would come with an $80K cost for bus transportation, hotels and food so for the present time it is out of the question according to band sources.
But the future isn’t a dream but a reality for the Spongers as the school nickname says during Thanksgiving in 2022 the band will be returning to New York City and participate in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade like they did in 2013. According to one school source that week long trip in 2022 will come at a cost of $3/4 of a million dollars so to all please be generous during the bands fundraising.
