Jays of Summer Staying in Dunedin

By on January 23, 2021

In an article earlier this week in SB Nation Bluebird Banter citing Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, the Toronto Blue Jays look as they may be starting the MLB regular season in the cozy confines of TD Ballpark in Dunedin, Florida.

Our own Eddie Michels has been on site in Dunedin and it looks like they are really ramping up improvements at TD Ballpark.

On Monday the 18th at TD Ballpark, spring training home of the Toronto Blue Jays, crews from two service company’s were working on the Jays Store at the stadium. It appears that some sort of water damage might have happened as the air conditioning units were also being worked on. The contents of the shop were removed on January 16th. As of the 19th the shop remains empty. (EDDIE MICHELS PHOTO)

Of course Eddie, as always, stumbled on a few more items…

Once a children’s playground and parking lot for the City of Dunedin residence owned Vanech Complex is now being made into what appears to be a parking lot for the Blue Jays new minor league complex. Since the Blue Jays took over the resident owned Vanech Complex in February 2018 the site has been used as a space for the construction trailers and a parking lot for the workers. Originally the area was also used as parking for parents picking up and dropping off their children attending the adjacent Garrison-Jones Elementary School so as not to cause problems with the flow of traffic on Garrison Rd. A present situation which at times now causes traffic to be backed up as much as a quarter mile. Some residents are hoping the area will be a parking lot for Blue Jays fans who have been blocked from viewing spring training workouts since the complex construction began. In the center of the photo is the Blue Jays security gate for the complex. (EDDIE MICHELS PHOTO)
It appears that the Toronto Blue Jays have a new grounds crew for their TD Ballpark in Dunedin. This while they are still working on getting their Jays Shop back in order for the upcoming spring training games at the stadium. (EDDIE MICHELS PHOTO)

On Saturday morning January 16th a moving van was observed at the entrance to the Jays Shop at TD Ballpark spring training home of the Toronto Blue Jays.  Boxes with unknown contents were seen being loaded into trucks.  It’s unknown what the purpose of the move is?  As of 2:30 PM on the 16th the Jays Shop was empty and the mannequins naked.  The contents of the store were taken away by FRSTeam aka Rogers Garment Restorations at (www.FRSTeam.com).
