Lightning Dominate Isles
By The Hockey Hottie on November 10, 2016Tampa, Fla. — On a special night honoring Veterans on Veterans Day Eve, just eleven minutes in the Lightning jumped to a 2-0 lead on goals courtesy of Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov. For Stamkos it was his eighth goal of the season. It was a power play goal for Stamkos and Kucherov’s came during even strength play and it was his fifth.
To extend the tribute to Veterans Day, some young United States Marine recruits took to the ice, to be sworn in and pledge their allegiance to our great United States of America.
In the second, Tyler Johnson scored the third goal of the game and his fifth goal of the season, help from Stamkos and Palat. Steven Stamkos was on a roll adding three more points to his stat sheet. Once the Bolts took the lead 3-0, things started a little chippy. The Islanders were getting frustrated and they managed to get more shots on net, but the Bolts #88 Andrei Vasilevskiy was keeping a good eye on the puck.
At 8:04 in the second, a breakdown of Lightning defense allowed the Islanders to get one through and put their first point on the board.
Nikita Kucherov managed to get a breakaway around the ten minute mark of the second only to be denied by Jarsolav Halak the Islanders net minder. He did manage to draw a penalty, and put the Bolts on the power play.
At the end of the second period the Bolts were leading 3-1. Thanks to the heads play of Vasilevskiy they were ahead in this game. The Bolts were heavily out numbered in shot count at 25-17.
Brian Boyle with the help of Cedric Paquette scored a beauty (Bolts fourth goal of the game.) at 1:08 in the third. The Islanders were leading in shot counts, face off wins and blocked shots but not where it really mattered on the score board.
The Bolts were starting to put the pressure on five minutes into the third, when the Islanders #27 Anders Lee committed a two minute minor high sticking penalty. Allowing the Bolts another man advantage, New York Islanders penalty kill unit was getting a work out.
I most definitely give the #1 star of this game to none other than #88 Andrei Vasilevskiy. He stopped 31 of 32 shots! Bolts win 4-1.
We’ll be back here Saturday night as the San Jose make a visit.
Listen for me on Mondays 1pm ET on the show.
