McGowan Healthy, John Farrell: “Spring training is for the pitchers”

DUNEDIN, Fla.–Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Dustin McGowan (left) is off to an injury free spring training for the first time in four years Wednesday February 22, 2012.  McGowan spent all or parts of four seasons on the DL with two arm and one knee surgery.

Manager John Farrell met with the media as he starts his second season as Toronto’s manager.  “Spring training is for the pitchers,” said Farrell who guided Toronto to an 81-81 record in 2011, “It gives them an opportunity to build their arm strength.”  Farrell was ask about any nervousness of last spring vs this spring.  “If you are not nervous you probably need to get into another line of work,” said Farrell.  (photo by Eddie Michels)

Toronto’s pitchers and catchers continue workouts at the team’s minor league complex on Solon Ave. in Dunedin which are open to the public.
