By Eddie Michels on March 20, 2012DUNEDIN, Fla.–Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Dustin McGowan threw 68-pitches, 40 for strikes while pitching in a Class-A minor league at the team’s Bobby Mattick Training Complex Monday. Facing the Tampa Yankees McGowan allowed five runs on six hits while walking two and striking out five over three-plus innings. “All it means is I got my pitches in,” said McGowan who spent over three years on the DL having two shoulder surgeries and a knee surgery before returning the the majors last September. As to when or where he will pitch next McGowan said, “In five days, I don’t care where it is.” “He was alright,” said pitching coach Bruce Walton, “His fastball was at 94-96 MPH.”
Toronto Blue Jay third baseman Brett Lawrie (left groin strain) takes BP Tuesday March 20, 2012 at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. Out since March 16 when he was injured legging out an infield hit against the Tampa Bay Rays, Lawrie also took grounders at third. “It depends on how he feels today,” said manager John Farrell of when he will see game action, “It’s unlikely that he will play tomorrow.”
