PALM BEACH, Fla. – Trevor May set a new Clearwater franchise single season record for strikeouts at 159 after his eight strikeout performance on Friday, July 29 at Roger Dean Stadium against the Palm Beach Cardinals. May surpassed Austin Hyatt’s mark of 156 set just a season ago.

May, 21, is currently 8-6 on the season with a 3.39 ERA in 119.1 innings pitched. He has recorded five double-digit strikeout games this year, including a career-high 14 against the Tampa Yankees on June 22. May has allowed three or fewer earned runs in 16 of his 21 starts and leads the team with two complete games (both were seven-inning contests).

The right hander was a midseason Florida State League All-Star for the second straight year and earned the victory in this year’s game.

Last year, May split time in Clearwater and Lakewood (class A) and fanned 182 in 135.0 innings.

The previous mark of 156 was set by Hyatt who was the 2010 Florida State League Pitcher of the Year.
