BLUE JAYS CLAIM GOMEZ

The Jays have claimed Mauro Gomez on waivers from the Boston Red Sox and have optioned him to Buffalo of the International League (AAA).
Gomez made his Major League debut last season with Boston, posting a .275 average with two home runs and 17 RBI in 37 games. The 6-2, 230 lb. right-handed hitting native of Bani, Dominican Republic has a .281 career minor league average with 130 home runs and 512 RBI over nine seasons. Gomez plays first base and is 28 years old.
To make room on the 40-man roster pitcher David Bush has been designated for assignment.
