DUNEDIN, Fla.–Being a Yankee superstar has it’s advantages even during a spring training game. Here Alex Rodriguez
gets more than the benefit of the doubt from plate umpire Adam Hamari as he can’t hold back but still gets the ball four call.
As far as the game, the Toronto Blue Jays used a bit of the long ball to beat their American League East rivals the New York Yankees 6-1 Thursday.
JP Arencibia had a two run homer off Yankees starter and loser Ivan Nova in the second and Travis Snider added a solo shot in the sixth off Cesar Cabral as the Jays pounded out twelve hits.
Brett Cecil got the win allowing one hit while walking one and striking out one over two shutout innings.
Scott Richmond followed Cecil and also threw two shutout innings allowing three hits and striking out one.
The Yankees got their lone run in the ninth as Colin Curtis homered over the center field wall off Chad Beck.
Toronto travels to Kissimmee on Friday to play the Astros with the Jays RHP Henderson Alvarez facing LHP J.A. Happ.
JAYS NOTES: Manager John Farrell made a few comments about his players Thursday saying about RHP Drew Hutchinson of Lakeland, Fl. “Hutchinson looked comfortable,” said Farrell of the young mans appearance in Bradenton on Wednesday, “He did give up a solo home run but he looked relaxed.” …As to Travis Snider and the battle for left field Farrell said, “Snider is up in the two hole today to give him some more at bats, it keep our right-left-right thing.” … Concerning Brett Lawrie, “Even for his age he has a lot of maturity,” said Farrell, “He’s an exciting young player and leader.” …The attendance for the game was 5,509, a sellout for Florida Auto Exchange Stadium.
