DUNEDIN, Fl. (RSEN)–Three times on the bus was a charm as RHP Ross Buckwalter finally took the mound in a major league spring training game.
Although the other road trips were by bus Buckwalter’s was by van on Tuesday March 15, 2011 from the Toronto Blue Jays minor league camp 3 1/2 miles to their game against the Phillies in Dunedin.
Not on the list to actually pitch but only in case of emergency Buckwalter was summoned from the pen in the ninth when Winston Abreu could only get one out.
Coming in with a runner on second, one out and two runs already across in a 13-7 game Buckwalker went to work.
First he got Freddy Galvis to fly out to left on three pitches then struck out Brandon Moss on five pitches.  Eight pitches, five for strikes.
“For a guy who has made his first appearence in camp (ML) he threw the ball well, pitched to contact and 5-6 pitches he gets out of a jam,” said Toronto Manager John Farrell, “He had no signs of nerviousness. It was good just to see a young guy come in and throw the ball over the plate..”
