CARLOS VILLANUEVA NAMED HONDA PLAYER OF THE MONTH

TORONTO BLUE JAYS RHP CARLOS VILLANUEVA has been named the HONDA PLAYER OF THE MONTH for July by the TORONTO CHAPTER of the BBWAA.

Honda, the official vehicle of the Blue Jays, will make a donation to the charity of Carlos’ choosing.

VILLANUEVA, 28, earns the honour, his first, by capturing four of the six first place votes. The right-hander posted a perfect 4-0 record in his four starts with a 1.93 ERA, while holding opponents to a .183 batting average. The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native ranked 3^rd in ERA (min 20IP), opponent’s average and T-3^rd in wins. 1B Edwin Encarnacion (.308, 6HR, 17RBI) received the other two first place votes, while C J.P. Arencibia (.321, 6HR, 13 RBI), & LHP Darren Oliver (1SV, 0.87 ERA) also tallied support.
