TORONTO BLUE JAYS LHP RICKY ROMERO has been named the HONDA PLAYER OF THE MONTH for August by the TORONTO CHAPTER of the BBWAA. Honda, the official vehicle of the Blue Jays, will make a donation to the charity of Ricky Romero’s choosing. ROMERO, 26, earned the honour after receiving all but one first place vote that went to Brett Lawrie. The left-hander started six games in August, recording a 5-0 record with a 2.05 ERA, while holding opponents to a stellar .160 average. The native of Los Angeles, California posted quality starts in all six outings and allowed four or less hits in four of the starts. Highlights included a three hit shutout against the Athletics on August 18 and a one-hit, eight inning performance in Tampa on August 2. His .160 opponent’s average was the lowest in the Major Leagues in August.
