Jays Prospect Former Outfielder, Ramirez on Hill in Inter-squad Game
By Rick Sassone on June 1, 2014DUNEDIN, FLA.–When the Toronto Blue Jays go looking for pitching prospects sometimes they need look no farther than their Class-A affiliate in Lansing, Michigan.
Sporting a fastball that topped out at 94 MPH former outfielder Carlos Ramirez tossed his first two innings as a professional during an inter-squad game at the teams minor league complex on Friday May 30, 2014.
Ramirez allowed an unearned run on just one hit while walking none and striking out two on 26-pitches, 17-strikes with a consistent fastball at 90-93 MPH.
Ramirez, after just 10-days of instruction as a pitcher, did hit one batter with a 79 MPH slider, Lydell Moseby, son of former Blue Jay Lloyd Moseby. The pitch did hit the young Moseby in the head but he was unfazed and trotting onto first.
Hitting just .176 with three RBI over 28 games this season at Lansing Ramirez throws from the outfield were clocked at 100 MPH, thus the switch.
