Series Run Starts with Monday Night Baseball
By Rick Sassone on September 30, 2013My bold prediction in February 2013 of the Rays winning the AL East was washed out by the inability to beat the Boston Redsox. Taking nothing away from the Bosox, who knew John Farrell, no fried chicken and a dry dugout would propel the Sox into dominance of the division.
When I realized my prediction was in jeopardy, somewhere mid September, I thought… well… a wildcard would somehow give me a sense, reaching of course, that my bold, ok… guaranteed prognostication, would not die in vain. And a playoff miss made it certain my February on air words go down as media hot air.
Ok so let us move beyond that, it’s game 163 tonight as last year’s AL Cy Young winner David Price takes the hill in Texas. Whatever your take is on the new Wild Card joke, I mean format, the Rays are in. The reality of it, one game tonight… a W then one game Wednesday… a W then the ALDS vs the number one AL team Boston. Ok I was tired at the tonight -Wednesday scenario so let’s not even bring up the ALCS.
Living in the moment, the Rays hold something that 20 other teams did not hold, a chance to win the 2013 World Series. It’s a tough road, but you Rays fans might as well do what fans are supposed to do, root and believe as the World Series run begins tonight, so what the heck… one game at a time, David is on the hill, and the road to the World Series is Goliath… GO RAYS!
