Pineda getting Close
By Eddie Michels on May 14, 2013CLEARWATER, FLA.–Yankees right-hander Michael Pineda (shoulder) showed marked improvement when he threw three-plus shutout innings during an extended spring game yesterday in Clearwater. With a fastball topping out at 92 MPH Pineda needed just 40-pitches as he allowed one hit and struck out four while walking none.
The 24 year-old from Yaguate, Dominican Republic, was acquired by the Bronx Bombers in a trade with the Seattle Mariners. Pineda went to the Yankees with Mariners minor-leaguer Jose Jose Campos for Jesus Montero and Hector Noesi.
Pineda in one season with Seattle was 9 and 10 with a 3.74 ERA.
