Saunders a Buc
By Eddie Michels on February 21, 2018Outfielder Michael Saunders signed a minor league contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday which includes a non-roster invite to spring training.
“Michael had a very very good year in 2016,” said Pirates GM Neal Huntington, “He is a good hitter, a dangerous left handed hitter and he has an opportunity to come in and make our club. To earn additional playing time and we think Michael on a minor league deal has a chance to earn more and make this club.”
Saunders came to the Blue Jays in 2015 but started the season on the DL after stepping on a sprinkler head on February 25th while shagging balls during early spring training.
In 2016 Saunders hit .298 and earned a spot in the All Star game while in 2017 he signed with Phillies but lasted just 61 games before being released in June.
Saunders signed a minor league deal with the Blue Jays and earned a September call up last season and appeared in 12 games.
