You’re Out of Here!
By Joshua Ott on March 3, 2013I’ve been doing some thinking about how to curb the steroid and banned substances in pro sports and this is what I have come up with. First off, as a professional athlete you are paid millions of dollars, you have an agent, a manager, coaches, a huge support crew so to use the excuse you didn’t know what you were putting into your body is not going to cut it. You are a PROFESSIONAL; your job is to play your sport, within the rules. If you don’t care what is going into your body, or as some claim rubbed on your body than maybe you shouldn’t be a PROFESSIONAL, maybe you should be an Amateur with Pro like skills.
So that excuse is just that, an excuse, it’s not going to save you in my court. Try telling a judge that you didn’t know the Alcohol you gulped down would impair your driving after killing a group of kids walking their dogs…. It’s not going to help your cause much. You get paid like a pro, act like a pro.
Ignorance is not a mental condition; it’s just you being an idiot. Don’t think it’s going to save you, you will still be punished, and my punishment is not a slap on the wrist. If you blatantly disregard the rules, or based on your ignorance, it makes no difference, you will dislike the outcome.
Each pro sport has a different way to deal with steroids and banned substances, I can fix them all in one swipe…. It’s actually very simple, you want to cheat, you will be out. Yes that’s it, you get caught using banned substances you will be banned from the sport, I guarantee that after a few lifetime bans come down the pipe the pro’s will be cleaned up.
No longer will there be a 30 day, a 10 game a 50 game or suspension be enforced, you are guilty.. you are done in the sport. I know a lot of folks will say that it’s a little harsh, but I look at common sense. If a person breaks a rule they should be punished, banned substances give an athlete an unfair advantage and could change the course of a game, a series and even a season. Why not nip it in the bud and make sure these so called “PROFESSIONALS” understand they are not above the law and cheating will not be tolerated.
Pete Rose bet on baseball, but his actions never changed the course of a single game, yet he is banned for life, how does that make any sense when guys like Bonds, Canseco, Palmeiro, Clemens, McGwire, and Sosa to name a few, are still in better standing with MLB than Pete Rose? Other than Bud Selig being a Dick and having a hard-on for Pete Rose how can anybody justify the fact that drug users are better than a guy making some side cash betting on games?
I doubt this ever happens, baseball needs guys that hit the ball 550 feet and pitchers throwing 100mph+ fastballs to succeed these days. Boxers needs to hit harder, football players need to be able to break the spine of the opposing player and a basketball players need to be able to do what Lebron does, all in order to keep the fans happy. I mean before the banned substances came about these sports were horribly boring and had no fan base right? Ahhh it’s a racket of money making, the leagues do just enough to save face and keep the fan base strong, but never mind it’s all cheating.
