Canadian WBC Manager Ernie Whitt keeps a keen eye on one his WBC pitchers Nick Pivetta throwing in the bullpen at the Phillies Carpenter Complex in Clearwater.

After two years in the broadcast booth Canadian Matt Stairs has now moved to the dugout as the Phillies new hitting coach. Stairs was ask about the toughest part of the transition? “Nothing”, said Stairs as far as the veteran players went, “But if there is one thing it’s to learn the new guys.” The Phillies first game at Spectrum Field is Thursday against the University of Tampa. On Friday they travel across Tampa Bay to play the Yankees with both games starting at 1:05 PM.

Signed as a free agent by the Phillies during the off season, East Lake High Grad Chris Coghlan stretches before workouts on Sunday at the Carpenter Complex. Drafted in the first round by the Florida Marlins in 2006 Coghlan won the 2009 NL Rookie of the Year. In 2016 he was part of the World Series Champion Chicago Cubs four games to three win over the Cleveland Indians.

After 13 springs as Brighthouse Field the Phillies will be playing at Specrum Field. It became official on Wednesday when the new sign was set in place at the stadiums main entrance.

With rainy weather in the area the Phillies tarpped the fields at the Carpenter Complex. Even with a bit of a breeze the grounds crew removed one of he tarps so that some drills could take place.
