Juice Wrld: A Musician

By on June 6, 2020

Someone I deeply admired was Jarad Anthony Higgins, other wise known as Juice Wrld, he was an American rapper who helped pioneer the “emo-rap” genre. He not only was incredibly talented, but his music was filled with passion not seen in many artists in the rap genre. He was also a deeply troubled man, evident by his music, he often talked about heartbreak in his life, as well his long battle with his opioid addiction, which would ultimately take his life, on December 8, 2019, 6 days after his 21st birthday. He once wrote a song called legends, were he was commenting on other rappers’ deaths, lil peep, 2017 who was 21, and xxxtentacion, 2018 who also passed away at 21. In the song, he states, “What’s the 27 club? We ain’t making it passed 21.” His 2019 album, Death Race for Love, went no.1 on the billboard top 200. Juice’s music wasn’t like most other rappers. He also paired rap with pop music, and he actually had a very talented voice. He died after getting off his charter plane in Chicago, were after it landed police were waiting expecting him to have drugs, he of course had many drugs on board, including oxycontin, he was also on promethazine at the time. Seeing the police, he took all of the oxy, leading to him having a seizure. Countless times he referenced his drug problem in his music, as to raise awareness. In some song he even states, “I know these perkys finna hurt me”, in another song he says “Oh my, oh me, how they kill me slowly lonely, I been getting no peace OD, feel like overdosing” another song he stated, “they tell me the perkys gonna be the death of me.”

Juice, was a very inspirational artist, and seeing him gone is really a travesty, not only was he going to be huge, not like he wasn’t already, but what he would have been able to achieve. The other sad part is he never looked or sounded happy in a majority of his songs, and he was always very positive, truly a loss for not only rap fans, but the world.

“I go through so much, I’m 19 years old its been months since I’ve felt at home. But it’s okay cause I’m rich, psych I’m still sad as a bitch.”

“I’m not a drug addict, got it all wrong, I’m just a love addict ‘til my heart gone.”

“I feel like that’s what’s going to be most respected at the end of the day, that I’m able to do so many things and become less of a rapper and just more of a musician.”

“I hope everybody’s having a good day, I hope everybody accomplished something significant, Even if you didn’t, accomplish anything significant, don’t be discouraged, just aim to accomplish something significant tomorrow, and the next day, and so on, if anybody’s going through anything I hope and pray that you get through, and just know you do have the strength to get through whatever the fuck your going through, no matter what it is.”- Juice Wrld RIP
