#5 Dustin McGowan. (From yesterday) Toronto right-hander Dustin McGowan appeared to breeze through his four shutout innings on the mound Tuesday for Triple-A Buffalo against Toledo.
McGowan allow just three hits and struck out three while walking none on 62-pitches, 41 for strikes.
“It went good, the first time I have thrown that many pitches in a while,” said McGowan, “Everything went good and felt good. It’s another wait and see tomorrow thing.”
“My goal the last two times I have been out is to just pound the zone and see what happens,” McGowan continued as he missed 9-10 days early in camp because of the flu. “I am very pleased what went on out there.”
With the possibility of McGowan returning to the rotation from the bullpen he addressed what he needs to work on.
“Wind up is one of the things I need to work on too because I haven’t done it a lot, just try and get comfortable with it. Kind of like riding a bike it comes back to you.”
As to starting or bullpen McGowan said, “I’m sure tomorrow we will talk about it again.”
“It’s just trying to get him stretched out here,” said GM Alex Anthopoulos, “A step is a step in the right direction, we’ll take it outing by outing at this point.”
McGowan could again pitch on Sunday, the same day major league rosters must be set.
